BI Knockouts - Fossiilit

Fossiilit - BI Knockouts 1-5 (1-0, 0-2, 0-2)

I cannot recall ( and didn't have means to make notes) who did what in the game, so no list of goalmakers this time, sorry. Most of the usual suspects were involved.

I managed to get my car stuck in snow on our drive, and missed the first period. I had to do some pretty frantic shoveling for 15 minutes before the game, which was a reasonable warm up. When I arrived, the first period was about to finish 1-0 for Fossiilit. With me arrived Douwe, so suddenly there were two more players to the game. I would like to think that was the turning point.

Fossiilit played a slow game, they were truly careful with the ball, and maybe therefore nothing much happened in their game. For some reason our team got a full steam on in the second period, which continued to the third. The ball was ours, and although the defense was occasionally alarmingly void of the actual defense men, Fossiilit didn't manage to make any more goals in the game.

The referee was considerably better in this game than it has been in some others. It seems that with this particular ref the games tend to stay cleaner than the other games. He also seems to be the only one who actually follows what's going on in the league, paying attention to banned players, and such. And he brought up an embarrassing thing: our shirts. They are not really uniform anymore, and we should do something about it quite quickly :)

See you in the next game!

Game report BIKO - Base

BIKO - Base 5-2 (0-1, 2-1, 3-0)

1-1 Jussi
2-1 Kalle (Marko)
3-2 Henri (Topi)
4-2 Kalle
5-2 Kalle (Topi)

Awesome! The game was VERY fast. I've grown to think that we do not excel in fast games, but after the first period I had to change my mind.

Base -team clearly had the following tactic in mind: Let's run like blazes the first period, mix them good, get 5-0 lead, and then we'll see, if BIKO wants to continue to play in the second period. The problem was, the first period ended only 1-0 for them, not more. The start was absolutely staggering. We really got what we're paying for. Everybody had to run like mad to keep up with Base's attacks. Jani was brilliant in the goal with gluey fingers, and the defense got a very good snatch record. I have to mention Wolfgang here, who despite weekends floorball activities, managed to pull such an excellent show.

And that was it, basically. After the first breeze was over, Base slowed down a little. With pretty much equal number of players on both teams they probably figured that they'll kill themselves, if they continue with the same pace. We started to get chances to break through. They were very, very fast and eager around our goal, and you had to stay real sharp to keep them at bay, but their defense wasn't too good. Of all five goals we scored, two were done solo, meaning, they were careless with the ball in their end.

We got a tad unlucky with Base's second goal, it bounced from our defense, which is always frustrating. But because we could keep the game even for a considerable length of time, despite Base's mad attacks, Base players started to heat up. That caused them quite a few penalties, which broke their game down even more. We had two sittings as well, but just kept on defending, as before, so it wasn't such a huge change in our play.

Excellent game! Thank you all once more. See you in the next one.

Game report SBIL - BI Knockouts

SBIL - BI Knockouts 8-5 (1-3, 3-2, 4-0)

0-1 Kalle (Miika)
0-2 Miika
0-3 Miika
4-4 Topi (Kalle)
4-5 Kalle (Topi)

I asked in the game reminder for a game that would not become a cause for depression during the holidays. We managed to play a very even and tight game against the top team in the series. Unfortunately we ran a little bit out of steam in the third period. SBIL is a very skilled team, there's no doubt about that, and they have goal makers, who can shoot sharp and from afar, if you let them. This made the defense challenging, but I think we came out of it with just minor injuries.

We did take a couple of penalties, plus one SBIL's goal was from a penalty shot. This is not necessarily too smart against a team like this, so remember to watch your sticks. Rough play is OK as long as it goes according to the rules. On the other hand, playing against a skilled team like this is very safe, they don't have to use dirty tactics to get the upper hand.

I enjoyed that. Have very nice and relaxing holidays, and see you next year!

BI Knockouts - Mister X's

BI Knockouts - Mister X's 5-2 (1-1, 3-0, 1-1)

1-1 Topi (Anni)
2-1 Topi (Miika)
3-1 Topi (Sarah)
4-1 Kalle (Topi)
5-2 Topi (Kalle)

We've made some BIKO history, folks: we've lost 6 games in a row. Now, in history as long as ours, this should not come as a big surprise to anyone. It just feels very annoying, when it's you who's making that little piece of the history.

SO LET'S REJOICE! The losing streak is PAST!

If you didn't happen to notice the numbers at first glance, we won, and quite convincingly yesterday. It was, as you can see, totally Topi's show. Begs the question, what did he eat before the game. I tried to push forward some cautious ideas about playing away from the center in our end, and running for it, when the chance comes, but practically, we were just running for it.

The defense did work very well, however, we had enough players to build good pairs or trios in each position in the rink, and it worked really nicely until the end of the second period. Our opponent tried to pickle us in our end, and there was some hasty stick work from our defense, resulting in a penalty. Killing the penalty went ok, and was supposed to end 18 seconds to the third period. Exactly one second after the penalty was done, we got another one, again in defense. Oh well, we thought, we have to go through the grinder again. And we did. Now, closing to the end of the second penalty, Miika did some real rough defending right in front of our goal, and lo and behold, a third penalty. I think - again - just one second had passed from the previous one. The third one we couldn't do anymore, and Mister X's scored.

The rest of the third period was so totally our game, that there are really no noteworthy things to say about it, except that Mister X's was the receiving part in many ways. Some nasties happened in our end as well, Jani got quite badly hit on his knuckles, and had to be attended to for a couple of minutes. With half grip strength he managed to tackle the last minutes. Good job.

I'm willing to call the past six games a statistical fluke.

See you in the next game!

Pakkaus Öhman - BIKO

On 23.9.2009

Pakkaus Öhman - BIKO 10 - 2

3-1 Douwe
4-2 Henri (Jani)

When the only positive thing in a game is the referee's final whistle, it's better not to comment on specifics. We sucked. On every level. Big time. Fortunately, there is only one direction from here.

BI Knockouts - Vandahls

BI Knockouts - Vandahls 6-6 (3-1, 1-1, 2-4)

1-1 Marko (Henri)
2-1 Artur (Evgeny)
3-1 Wolfgang (Topi)
4-1 Marko
5-6 Henri (Wolfgang)
6-6 Topi (Marko)

First things first: Congratulations to our goal keeper Jani and his wife, for new baby girl!

Very good start for the season, indeed. There was some risen blood pressure levels due to our goal keeper situation, though. I had called through 4 possible last minute candidates, with no luck. I was pleading for volunteers. We had reserved the goal keepers kit from the register, just in case, and still about a minute before the game started, we were not sure about who's going to be in the goal. Then, amazing stroke of luck: Our neighboring rink had a practice game at the same time, and suddenly someone pointed out that the other team had two goalkeepers. So, I went to disturb their tactical gathering, explained briefly our situation, and managed to get the coaches permission to borrow their goal keepers. These two nice guys, Antti and Timo, agreed to share half and half of the goal keepers duty in both games. The change was pretty much exactly half way to the second period. Thanks, guys.

We had a sharp start. We got very quickly to the leading position 4-1, and our defense, although a little chaotic, was holding well. We were feeling very pleased with ourselves. Nothing much happened in the second period, but in the beginning of the third, Vandahls suddenly found a completely new gear. Our defense was frankly paralyzed at times. There were panicky situations, and at least twice a very dangerous change of players. Also our attacks started lacking, as the wings could not coordinate their running with the rest of the attack chain. Very often it was possible to see all three forwards running up in high speed, in a row, and stop to wait for the pass from the defense. As the Vandahls pretty much blocked the whole mid field in these situations, passing high balls up behind them was nearly impossible.

In the end, we got our spirits back, and the last 2 minutes played without the goalie, thus managing to finally tie the game to 6-6. It surely felt like a victory, so hard were people working for it. Very good running, and the ball stuck with us.

See you in the next game,

Season starting

Good Autumn to everyone!

I hope you all have had a relaxing summer, and are full of steam for the opening floorball season. In fact, although we had to gather the team in a very short notice, we have 16 players signed up for the winter, which is quite a lot more than last year. It's looking good.

Some information about it all has been already sent to you by email I will put here some useful links to serve as a bookmark. First of all, insurance: We do not, as a team, collectively get an insurance for our players, but I strongly encourage you to go here and get the "YKSITTÄINEN LISENSSI VAKUUTUKSELLA", which will give you insurance, in case you get injured during the games. The type of insurance you want is 'Ha'. It costs only 42€.

Another useful link is the schedule of all games as a google document.

And remember that the calendar you see on the side frame is a public one, and you can open it in your own google calendar by searching for BI Knockouts public calendar.

The last but not the least is the Nimenhuuto -site for you to sign up to the games. BI Knockouts has it's own site now up waiting for you. Please go there, and sign up as a player. This way it is heck of a lot easier for us and everyone to maintain, who's coming and when.

Right. Let's start the season.
