Game report BIKO - Fonecta

BIKO - Fonecta 2-11 (0-2, 0-6, 2-3)

1-8 Douwe
2-11 Tuomas

Well, it is kind of depressing to have our first game report on this new site looking like this. As we can all see from the league scores, Fonecta has played very uneven games this season, losing to odd teams, and then winning even odder teams. Their player material was very uneven as well. They had three guys (one of them was Tähkä), who ran the game. The rest of them played like ordinary people. I could not help but think: "OK, in those games they lost, how many of those three were actually playing?"

I'm not saying that teams should not get their players from where ever they can find them, it just feels a little odd to have national team players in amateur league, in a group labeled 'skill level: low to moderate'.

But back to the game: We had a bad day. Nothing reminded of our heroic defense game that we saw last time. Everybody got the shakes, for some reason. Were we afraid of players with some fame? It certainly looked like it. This is partially my bad. I should have guessed, that this would go in peoples heads so seriously, and I should have made us play the turtle game. Now we let such ridiculous goals in that it was unbelievable.

Obviously they had a few really good shots, and they were quite unpredictable, but the scores could have easily looked completely different. I may have to mention here, that Jani played 'under influence', but he got marvelous saves throughout the game, and claims himself not being able to move any faster even if he'd been on stimulants... Anyway, most of the goals were the fault of the field players, in any case. Blocking the shots was weak at times, and their attackers could freely walk to the front of our goal too many times.

One difficulty was opening the games. They took Miika under heavy guarding immediately, and that made starts very awkward. Many times the forwards just ran up and started waiting, when one of us should have stayed down and help Miika get the ball up with shorter passes. Also, in attacks, wings seem to forget that one of us has to stay down and patch the defense, if one of the defense men is up with the ball. Basic things. We just need to be reminded of them sometimes.

A very difficult game, most of it our own doing. Heads up! We do better next time.

BI Knockouts blog announcement

BI Knockouts has moved from University of Helsinki server to the blogo-sphere, for various reasons. The most pressing is the fact the I, the current Captain of the team, do not have access to the University servers anymore. The same may be true to those, who'll follow me to this position, and maintaining a blog is just so much more convenient.

At this moment the blog does not look like our original BIKO web site, and it will never be like that. The theme will change, and as many of the old stories and photos will be transferred here as possible.

After a long break in web activity, BI Knockouts is again on-line!
